Beavers of the Green Woods (or Skalkaho) Highway Day Drive is about 55 miles from Porters Corner to Hamilton, Montana. The beautiful drive is purely about scenery and wildlife viewing. The route features Dome Shaped Mountain, Skalkaho Mountain, Canyon Peak, Ward Mountain, and Castle Crag peak.
The route on Skalkaho Highway also includes Daly Creek, Falls Creek, Dam Creek, Mud Lake, Georgetown Lake, Echo Lake, Rock Creek, and the moose that frequent the willows of Flint Creek.
You can extend your trip past the necessary two hours, explore the area for a couple of days, and make the drive a long weekend. Extending your drive allows you to explore the unique creeks, go fishing, and explore a nearby trail.
From Porters Corner to Hamilton, Montana, campgrounds include Crystal Creek Campground, Black Bear Campground, and Flint Creek Campground.
We suggest the following activities on the journey: Visiting the Skalkaho Game Preserve for birding or hunting Visiting Lost Creek State Park Visiting the Skalkaho Falls Hiking to the Blodgett Canyon Waterfall Hiking the Centennial Grove Trailhead Hiking the Camas Lake Trailhead Hiking the Coyote Coulee Trailhead Hikeing the Lake Como Loop Trail Hiking the Ward Mountain Trailhead Hiking the Barker Lakes Trail The highway is closed in the winter and usually opens back up in late May or early June. Use caution when driving, wear your seatbelt, and don't exceed the speed limit.
